Truer words were never spoken. Yes, the genre is vastly entertaining (to read and write), but too often critics cast it aside without realizing that in the right hands, fantasy can – and does – tackle some of society’s toughest issues. By the unenlightened few, a fantasy writer is also dismissed as flakey or in the very least, something less than a serious author.
